Permanent residence

What is permanent residence?

Permanent residence allows you to live, work and study in Canada indefinitely. You enjoy most of the rights of Canadian citizens, including access to the public health insurance system and the possibility of sponsoring your relatives.

Unlike a temporary permit, permanent residence does not have an expiry date. You simply need to respect the physical presence obligation: be present in Canada for at least 730 days over a 5-year period.
